People living with HIV often experience stigma and discrimination due to their HIV status. Stigma is the attitude of disapproval and disconnect towards an individual or group from other individuals or institutions because of the negative beliefs that society has about something.
Discrimination is often a consequence of stigma, occurring when unfair actions are taken against individuals based on their belonging to a stigmatized group.
